Parabolas
It is important that you understand the vocabulary related to parabolas so make sure you take some notes as you watch the video to the right.
Define: -Vertex form -Focus -Directric -Midpoint formula Important question: What is the difference in the formulas when a parabola opens up verses when it opens right? |

Circles
|
I made a mistake on the last problem (number 7). I forgot to carry down a negative sign which made my radius squared 75 instead of 25. Other than that I hope the video is helpful for learning about circles. Thank you to Evelyn for finding my mistake!
Important question: How do you find equation for a circle given different types of information? How do you solve linear-quadratic systems? |
EllipsesThis section can be a little difficult because you haven't worked with ellipses in any of your prior math classes, but don't be discouraged. It takes some time to really understand these.

Hyperbolas
In the video to the right I demonstrate how to find the equation for the hyperbolas given different types of information. As you've noticed with all of the conic sections, graphing as you go can make a huge difference in your understanding of the problem. I want to encourage you to graph what you know from the beginning and as you work through the problem add more to the graph to better your understanding.
