1.2.1 Isometric Sketching
Isometric
Edges that converge at one point will appear as 120 degree angles (or 30 degrees from the horizon line). Isometric-equal measure. Isometric sketches always have the same orientation. The FRONT is always drawn so that you would look directly at it if you where looking from the bottom left corner towards the top right corner of the paper. The FRONT view is not what you might think of as being the front but rather the BEST side of the object you are drawing. As an example lets think about a truck. If you were to draw the side that you have always thought of as being the front, then you wouldn't see the doors, the truck bed, the wheels or anything else that makes trucks to great. If instead, you decided to draw the trucks best side then you would pick the driver's side (or passenger because they are probably the same). From the driver's side you could see that there is a truck bed, wheels and how many doors it has. Since the side view of the truck provides you with more detail, it is considered its BEST FRONT view and you would orientate the drawing based on that. See the figure to the right regarding front, top, and right sides of an isometric sketch. |
